Just as we wrapped up our typing calling for enforcement of immigration laws comes this article
about 58 illegal aliens captured in Ohio, and most now slated for deportation.  As detailed in this news piece, the interesting thing here is that these aliens were slave labor employees of restaurants that the Government alleges specifically recruited illegals for hire.  The business are also under investigation, though no charges have been filed as of this writing.

In the article, a Cleveland immigration lawyer was quoted as follows:  "These people are not criminals," said David Leopold, a Cleveland immigration lawyer. "The worst thing you can say about them is they came here to feed their families." 

Oh really?  We can say much worse.  First, message to Mr Leopold: they are criminals, and you need to brush up on the law.  Here's a refresher:

Title 8 Section 1325. Improper entry by alien

    (a) Improper time or place; avoidance of examination or inspection;
      misrepresentation and concealment of facts
      Any alien who (1) enters or attempts to enter the United States
    at any time or place other than as designated by immigration
    officers, or (2) eludes examination or inspection by immigration
    officers, or (3) attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United
    States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the
    willful concealment of a material fact, shall, for the first
    commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18 or
    imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both, and, for a subsequent
    commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18, or
    imprisoned not more than 2 years, or both.
    (b) Improper time or place; civil penalties
      Any alien who is apprehended while entering (or attempting to
    enter) the United States at a time or place other than as
    designated by immigration officers shall be subject to a civil
    penalty of - 
        (1) at least $50 and not more than $250 for each such entry (or
      attempted entry); or
        (2) twice the amount specified in paragraph (1) in the case of
      an alien who has been previously subject to a civil penalty under
      this subsection.

    Civil penalties under this subsection are in addition to, and not
    in lieu of, any criminal or other civil penalties that may be
    imposed.
    (c) Marriage fraud
      Any individual who knowingly enters into a marriage for the
    purpose of evading any provision of the immigration laws shall be
    imprisoned for not more than 5 years, or fined not more than
    $250,000, or both.
    (d) Immigration-related entrepreneurship fraud
      Any individual who knowingly establishes a commercial enterprise
    for the purpose of evading any provision of the immigration laws
    shall be imprisoned for not more than 5 years, fined in accordance
    with title 18, or both.

Our second message to Mr. Leopold: illegal immigrants come here to eat, and put the squeeze on our citizen poor, who can't compete with slave labor wage rates.   So, illegal immigrants eat at the expense of the citizen poor who are further marginalized and victimized by the illegal alien flesh trade.  In an analysis titled The New Americans: Economic, Demographic, and Fiscal Effects of Immigration, the National Academy of Sciences discusses the harm done to the citizen poor of this Country, and the staggering cost of illegal immigration to taxpaying Americans.  As we stated in our first installment - the only people who win are the unscrupulous criminal slave labor traders and exploiters.  EVERYONE else loses, illegal immigrants and citizens alike.

Despite assurances to the Stupid Nation that illegal immigration is a victimless crime, the FACTS show that the  United States is awash in social and economic victims of this criminal activity. The victimless crime claim is another Big Lie. The intransigence of Congress to effectively deal with this problem tells us that the profits earned from the illegal immigrant flesh trade have infected and corrupted Congress.
