An article in the New York Times by Steven Erlanger linked on The Drudge Report discusses the generalized state of European politics, noting that Socialists and their farther left cousins are in retreat in most places in Europe despite the capitalist earthquake wrought by un-regulated and/or under-regulated derivative debt trading.

Yet in America, faced with a choice between an aged self-described "conservative maverick", John McCain, and a little known opponent promising "change" with little to back it up, a small majority of Americans decided to go with Barack Obama.  The rest is history.

Let me be clear, I voted for John McCain.  I didn't like him.  I still to this day have a problem with McCain's campaign finance "reform" bill that restricted free political speech - the most important speech to protect.  And I have other problems with McCain, but the one thing I was sure of was that McCain wasn't a socialist.  The other thing I was sure of last November was that Barack Obama was, and is, a Marxist Socialist.  With only 7 months or so in office, nearly our worst fears have already been realized, and we can only hope that things don't get worse before Obama is paralyzed by a shift in Congressional seats, and then voted out of office.

It's amazing the stupidity that there is out there.  As I have said before, marked and unmarked graveyards across Europe and Asia are chock full of the victims of socialism and it's dreadful derivatives.  Yet that never seems to phase the Neo Marxist Socialist.  Somehow, through a combination of hubris and arrogance, most of these fools think they are smarter than those that have come and gone before, and their brand of socialism is socialism perfected.  It's a toxic elixir of self delusion.

So even as capitalism shows us nearly it's messy worst, enough people in Europe still sense that the socialists offer far worse than even the messiest capitalism, and move away from a failed system.  All the while our socialist President is hell-bent to push the United States as far to the left as he can get away with, regardless of the fact that the United States is surrounded by failed socialist states around the globe.  Hec - they didn't have Obama, the left rationalizes, we can do it better, for worse effect.
